On Sunday, at around 11:54 a.m., eleven coaches of the SMVT Bengaluru-Kamakhya AC Superfast Express (Train 12551) derailed close to the Nirgundi railway station in the Choudwarneighbourhood of Cuttack, resulting in a horrific train accident.

According to the most recent information, seven injuries and one death have been confirmed. After being taken to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, four of the injured are currently undergoing treatment.

Although the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has begun an investigation to ascertain the precise reason for the disaster, they have not yet reached a definitive conclusion.

A thorough investigation will determine the exact cause of the tragedy, according to ECoR’s Chief Public Relations Officer.

A special rescue train and the Khordha Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) were sent to the scene in response.

Senior officials have been overseeing the rescue operations and providing necessary assistance to passengers. In order to remove the tracks and return things to normal, restoration work started right away. Several non-governmental organizations (NGOs) also stepped in to provide aid to those affected.

Train Service Disruptions

Several trains were diverted as a result of the incident, including the Purulia SF Express (22606), Neelachal Express (12875), and DhauliExpress (12822).

For travellers who are stranded, the railway has provided the following helpline numbers: Cuttack (8991124238) and Bhubaneswar (8455885999). Authorities have promised that a special train will leave Bhubaneswar and take all stranded passengers to their destinations.
