Nidhi Tewari: Modi’s New Private Secretary?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has named Nidhi Tewari, an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer from the 2014 batch, as his private secretary. On March 29, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued an order confirming her appointment, which was approved by the Cabinet’s Appointments Committee and went into force right away.

Before being elevated to Deputy Secretary in January 2023, Tewari began working at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in November 2022 as an Under Secretary. She had been serving in this role before to her most recent promotion, managing important portfolios pertaining to security and international policy.
Before the Fame: What Was Their Early Career Like?
Tewari, who was born in Mehmurganj in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Modi’s parliamentary constituency, has progressively established a career in politics and diplomacy. She had previously worked as an Assistant Commissioner (Commercial Tax) in Varanasi while preparing for the 2013 Civil Services Examination, where she achieved the 96th rank.
She worked in the Disarmament and International Security Affairs Division of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) before to joining the PMO. As she moved to the PMO and worked with National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval in the “Foreign and Security” vertical, her knowledge of international relations proved invaluable.
